NGINX server - via Docker on AWS

the following explains how to create an AWS EC2 instances running ubuntu and nginx on a docker container

create the AWS EC2 instance with the following settings:

  • AMI: Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS (HVM), SSD Volume Type - ami-5e8bb23b
  • Family: General Purpose - t2.nano
  • Security Group: port 80 for HTTP
  • SSL Key Pair: locally generated, ssh-keygen -f /Users/michaelemens/Downloads/mean1k -t rsa -b 1024

connect to the new AWS instance and install docker:

  • shell connection: ssh -l ubuntu -i /Users/michaelemens/Downloads/mean1k ec2-52-14-7-197.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com
  • installed docker: curl -fsSL get.docker.com -o get-docker.sh; sh get-docker.sh

launch nginx image - there are 2 ways (pick one):
